The Appraisal Institute of Canada

The Appraisal Institute of Canada, founded in 1938, is the national professional institute of real estate appraisers in Canada.  The membership of approximately 7,000 is dedicated to high and uniform standards of appraisal practise.  The Institute awards use of two designations follows:

AACI  Accredited Appraiser Canadian Institute
 Designates full accredited membership in the Institute and may be used by the holder in connection with the appraisal of all types of real estate. 
CRA   Canadian Residential Appraiser
May be used by the holder, only in connection with the appraisal and valuation of individual undeveloped residential dwelling sites and dwellings containing not more than four, self-contained family housing units.
 

American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers

The American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers was founded in 1929 and is headquartered in Denver, Colorado.  There are a total of 37 chapters affiliated with the Society and more than 20 working committees which contribute to the policies and operations of the organization.  There are over 3,300 A.S.F.M.R.A. members in the United States and Canada.

The Society proudly awards two designations to those members who successfully complete rigid educational and experience requirements.  The Accredited Rural Appraiser (ARA) and the Accredited Farm Manager (AFM) designations stand as symbols of the hard work, dedication and integrity demanded of the appraisal and management profession by today's business community.  A Professional Member designation is also awarded to those individuals meeting a specific criteria to achieving accreditation.

 

The Appraisal Institute

As the world's leading organization of professional real estate appraisers, the Appraisal Institute has general appraisal members who hold the MAI, SRPA, or SREA designation and residential appraisal members who hold the SRA or RM designation.  Identified by their experience and knowledge of real estate valuation, these members adhere to a strictly enforced Code of Professional Ethics and Standards of Professional Ethics and Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice.  Currently, the Appraisal Institute confers one general designation, the MAI, and one residential designation, the SRA.  Holding an Appraisal Institute membership designation sets members apart from the rest of the appraisal community.  Members holding Appraisal Institute designations are recognized as the most qualified in their fields.

MAI The MAI membership designation is held by appraisers who are experienced in the valuation and evaluation 
of commercial, industrial, residential, and other types of properties, and who advise clients on real estate investment decisions.

Real Estate Institute of Canada

The Real Estate Institute of Canada (R.E.I.C.) is a non-profit national organization dedicated to the maintenance of standards of professionalism in real estate practice.  The Institute is involved in the education of real estate practitioners and grants certifications in specialty areas, including the CRF and FRI.

CRF  Certified In Real Estate Finance
The CRF designation qualifies those individuals in real estate finance who have successfully completed the comprehensive programme of specialty courses; who have five years of approved experience in real estate finance; and, whose ethical conduct warrants such distinction.
FRI Fellow Real Estate Institute

The FRI designation, a certification owned and registered by the Canadian Real Estate Association, is the longest standing achievement in the field of real estate, and is held by more than 2,500 professionals across Canada.  It is awarded to those whose education, experience and ethical conduct has met the rigorous standards set by the Institute to warrant such a distinction.

The FRI is a real estate professional who through experience and education, has gained knowledge of the essential, practical and theoretical elements of general real estate practice.

 

The Institute of Municipal Assessors of Ontario

In 1941, the Association of Assessing Officers of Ontario was formed which in turn created the Institute of Municipal Assessors in 1954 as its education wing.  The Institute was incorporated in 1957 and in 1968 become the professional organization for assessors in Ontario.  In 1987, the Institute was the subject of a Private Member's Bill in the Ontario Legislature which protects its designations.  Members of the Institute are employed in both the public and private sectors.

The objectives of the Institute are to promote the interests, education and professional efficiency of persons engaged in the valuation of real property for the purposes of municipal taxation.

To this end, the Institute sponsors and maintains continuing education programmes both for accredited members and for persons new to the assessment field.

 

Ontario Institute of Agrologists

The Ontario Institute of Agrologists (OIA) is an organization of professionals in agriculture working to maintain the high standards of their profession.  There are approximately 1,200 OIA members in 13 branches across the province.

The mission of the OIA is to advance the professionalism of agrologists in serving society through the agricultural food industry.

The letters "P.Ag." after a person's name indicate that this person is a professional, legally qualified as an agrologist.

Agrologists are professional agriculturists.  They are employed by educational institutions, private industry and governments.  Agrologists are found in lending institutions, on farms, in advertising agencies, farm equipment dealerships, food processing plants, farm organizations, media and corporate boardrooms.
